The Lady of the Glade

y journeys throughout Norrath take me to the very corners of the lands.  Although it is my destiny to to travel wherever Tunare's light may guide me, there are times when I look back to when I was a young ranger, finding fun and adventure in my homeland of Qeynos and the Surefall Glade...

On one of my many adventures in the lands of Kunark, I happened upon a lady druid who had just returned from a long campaign against the evil Dark Elves of the Overthere.  Her name is Bria Sunrider, an elf maiden whose beauty could rival the bluest of skies and the clearest of star-filled nights. We met in the woods of the Frontier Mountains, where she hailed me from afar, offering to share her campfire in exchange for company in the night.  I was only too eager to oblige, for long journeys can make one hungry and eager for a chat.

After exchanging news and stories, I looked up into the clear sky and pointed towards the constellation of Tunare shining brightly above.  "I used to love to gaze upon the stars as a child," I said.  "Seeing Tunare above reminds me of home.  Oh how I miss the Glade."

"Do you speak of the Surefall Glade?" asked Bria.

After my brief look of shock, I was amazed that Bria knew of my hometown.  The Surefall Glade is such a small haven and home to a handful of human rangers, that very few people meet have ever heard of it.

"I journeyed to Surefall Glade for the first time just a few years ago, and I have been in love with it ever since.  The woods of Surefall can make any elf of the Faydwer bow to its beauty," said Bria.

"It has been two years since I have been back," I said, with a sense of sadness in my voice. " And I fear I may not see the Glade for some time yet.  I have journeyed long and far to reach Kunark, and my adventure has only begun."

To this, Bria smiled and patted me on my hand. "I feel you shall see your home again sooner than you think," she said. "Sleep well tonight, Ranger."

And to that command I did.  I slept perhaps the best I had in many months, dreaming of the cool, crisp morning air of the Qeynos hills and the tall Edenwood trees of my home.  And when I awoke... it was as if my dream awoke with me.

For as I rubbed the weariness of the night from my eyes and looked about me, I had awoken in the Surefall Glade!

"Did I not say you shall see your home again soon?" said a soft voice behind me.  When I turned, I saw Bria beaming her warm smile upon me, her eyes green as the canopy above us, and her lips grinning in playful mischief.

I could barely speak with the lump of joy in my throat.  I simply took Bria in my arms and embraced her in gracious thanks. I soon gave her a tour of my part of the Glade, visiting old friends and my old mentors.  For the next few days, Bria and I had the time of our lives visiting the nearby Qeynos hills and old friends like the Millers and Holly Windstalker.  She even accompanied me to repay a few old debts in the Blackburrow caves.

Bria and I shared memories that will last our very lifetimes.  I found in her a friend that I would keep close to my heart, taking her with me along all my journeys, beit her spirit alone.

Alas, it was soon time for us to head back to our campaigns in Kunark, and Bria cast her magical spell to bring us back to the same campsight where we had met.   We parted with many words of thanks, and I expressed to Bria that I feared I may not see her again.

So we made a vow of friendship and a pact:  On the first day of spring two years from that day, we shall meet again beneath the falls of Surefall glade.

It may be the longest two years of my life, but it will be worth the wait.
